Whiplash
“I played in a school band and this brought back things I had filed away. The final nine minutes are the best thing I saw all year.”

Sinners
“I saw it opening weekend in a packed room and again alone on a Tuesday. It worked both times, which surprised me.”

Flow
“Eighty-five minutes, no words, and I was more invested than in anything else I saw this year. Watched it again the same evening.”

Spirited Away
“I first saw this at eleven and again at thirty-four. Both times I came out of it quiet. Almost nothing survives that.”
